Joint Seminar on “Future of Sustainable Textiles” by TUV Rheinland & the Microfibre Consortium 2024

A seminar was conducted jointly by TUV Rheinland and TMC on 12th September 2024 at Poppys Vista Hotel on the topic “Future of Sustainable Textiles: Navigating Microfibers, REACH, and Environmental Compliance.”
The Vice President of Tiruppur Exporters Association (TEA), Mr. V. Elangovan, was the Chief Guest in the event and TEA Executive Committee Member and Chairman of the Business Promotion, Branding & Sustainability Sub Committee, Mr. M. Anand, was a Special Dignitary in the meeting. The panel of eminent speakers included Mr. Prasad Pant, South Asia Director, ZDHC, Mr. Elliot Bland, Researcher, TMC, Mr. Shivendra Parmer, AGM, TÜV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd, Mr. P. Chakraborty, Sustainability Manager, TÜV Rheinland India Pvt. Ltd.
Dr. Shanmuga Sundaram, Senior Vice President and RSC of TUV Rheinland, welcomed the gathering.
Vice President of TEA Mr. Rajkumar Ramasamy in his speech, advised that all women should participate and benefit from such awareness programs which are being carried out with the help of Rotary organizations at the initiative of TEA – Women Empowerment sub-committee aimed at the welfare of women workers. He thanked the Rotary organization for dedicating an expensive scanning vehicle to carry out such useful work.
Mr. V. Elangovan, Vice President of TEA, during his address as Chief Guest emphasized the necessity of following sustainable techniques in the apparel production sector. He highlighted that since textiles is the second largest user of the scarce natural resource “WATER”, it is absolutely essential that we follow strict sustainable practices to ensure that we do not tamper with mother earth. He further said that with the recent introduction of strict ESG regulations across Europe, the seminar would be very valuable for exporters who are currently looking to attain sustainability compliance.
TEA Executive Committee Member Mr. M. Anand, Karur Textile Manufacturers and Exporters Association CEO Mr. Sankaralingam and Mr. Adarsh Emmanuel of Primark spoke on eco-friendly practices in knitted garment exports.
The eminent speakers delivered lectures on various subjects, including “Microfibers Pollution”, “REACH Regulations & SEIP Database”, “Carbon Management”, and the “Role of ZDHC in Sustainable Textiles.”
Mr. Velmurugan of TUV Rheinland proposed the vote of thanks.
