The Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India, Shri Giriraj Singh , held discussions with representatives of various manufacturers’ associations at the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association on 28 June 2026 on the future growth and development of Tiruppur’s textile and garment industry.
Shri. N. Thirukkumaran, General Secretary, TEA, welcomed the gathering and highlighted Tiruppur’s global leadership in knitwear manufacturing and exports . He also appreciated the initiatives of the Government of India and the Ministry of Textiles, including FTAs, PM MITRA and PLI schemes, for strengthening industry growth and export competitiveness.
Shri. K.M. Subramanian, President, TEA, stated that the Minister’s visit had brought renewed confidence to the industry. Highlighting Tiruppur’s exports of over ₹46,000 crore and 60% share in India’s knitwear exports, he sought support for worker housing, extension of the zero-duty on cotton imports, continuation of the RoSCTL Scheme and early implementation of the TEEM Scheme.
Shri T.N. Venkatesh, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, stated that Tamil Nadu has been assigned a textile export target of USD 21 billion by 2030, with Tiruppur contributing USD 11.5 billion. He announced plans for technical textiles, women workers’ hostels and a Centre of Excellence for Activewear in Tiruppur .
Dr. M. Beena, IAS, Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, described Tiruppur as a model textile cluster and expressed confidence that its strengths in value addition, innovation and sustainability would help achieve national export targets.
Padma Shri Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman, AEPC and Honorary Chairman, TEA, highlighted the opportunities arising from PM MITRA, MMF growth and India’s FTAs with 38 countries. He sought support for affordable housing, MMF processing incentives and a Green Processing Centre in Tiruppur.
Shri. Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles , appreciated Tiruppur’s transformation into a globally recognised textile cluster and emphasized the shift towards MMF and sustainable manufacturing. He reiterated the Government of India’s target of increasing textile exports to USD 100 billion by 2030 and assured full support for industrial growth , women workers’ hostels and modern manufacturing technologies .
The programme which was compered by Shri.Kumar Duraiswamy,Joint Secretary,TEA concluded with an interactive session and open discussion with industry representatives.

Earlier, the Hon’ble Union Minister visited Netaji Apparel Park , inspected its infrastructure and solar power facilities, and later joined industry representatives and workers in viewing the live telecast of the ” Mann Ki Baat ” programme.
