“Beyond Tariffs: Building Global Competitiveness in India’s Textile & Apparel Sector” at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi

Bharat Tex Session - 01

It was a very engaging and fruitful discussion with industry leaders and policymakers. I had the opportunity to share the remarkable journey of the Tiruppur knitwear cluster, highlighting how our ecosystem of specialised MSMEs has made Tiruppur India’s leading knitwear export hub.

I also spoke about the cluster’s strong commitment to sustainability and ESG initiatives, including water recycling, renewable energy, and green manufacturing, which have positioned Tiruppur as a future-ready global sourcing destination.

During the discussion, I explained our vision to achieve ₹1 lakh crore in knitwear exports by 2030 through innovation, diversification into MMF products, value addition, technology adoption, and continued focus on sustainability.

The interaction reaffirmed that Tiruppur is ready for the future and will continue to strengthen India’s position in the global textile and apparel market.

It was also a privilege to be part of the release of the ICRIER publication, “Stitching India’s Apparel Exports Strategy: From Farm to Foreign.”
